Social TV Categories Added to 65th Emmys

The Emmy Awards will have new categories that will bring Social TV to industry’s mainstream.

“Today, we see a new degree of maturity and breadth in the Interactive Media projects entered in the Primetime Emmy Awards contest that now routinely goes beyond what we’ve seen in years past,” the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said in a release. ”This new structure represents a landmark advance in keeping our awards relevant and meaningful in our rapidly evolving industry.”

The 65th Prime time Emmy Awards will be the first to present a new award for Outstanding Interactive Program, and expanding the competition of creative achievement in interactive media to include awards for multiplatform storytelling, original interactive program, social TV experience, and user experience and visual design.

The 2013 Emmys are judged on the period of June 1, 2012 – May 31, 2013
