HapYak gets $850K for social startup

By Kyle Alspach, Boston Business Journal

Waltham’s HapYak, a startup aiming to make video more social by enabling users to create written commentary and freehand drawings on top of videos, said Friday it’s raised an $850,000 seed round led by Waltham venture capital firm Kepha Partners.

HapYak allows users to do what has long been done on TV — such as in the written commentary on VH1′s “Pop Up Video” and the telestrator sketches on NFL replays by commentators such as John Madden, said HapYak co-founder Kyle Morton.

Clemson’s Daniel Rodriguez, The Best College Football Walk-On Story Since “Rudy”

Imagine for a second that Daniel “Rudy” Ruettiger’s of Notre Dame cut his underdog canines on the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq instead of the steel mills outside Chicago, and used social media as a way to finally make the Irish’s roster. Also, toss in PTSD, witnessing your best friend’s being blown to bits in combat and a Purple Heart and Bronze Star, and you’ve got the best walk-on story since Rudy’s. ESPN’s College Gameday spotlighted Daniel Rodriguez’s traumatic journey to Clemson’s roster on Saturday in honor of Veteran’s Day. It’s a worthwhile piece to glimpse, even if ESPN’s proverbial black cloud of doom, Tom Rinaldi, covered it.
