Apple CEO Tim Cook isn’t a fan of the current state of television. ”When I go into my living room and turn on the TV, I feel like I have gone backwards in time by 20 to 30 years,” Cook said in an interview with NBC’s Brian Williams, part of an interview that will air tonight on “Rock Center.” “It’s an area of intense interest. I can’t say more than that.”

MUMBAI: Times Television Network’s Bollywood channel Zoom has launched a social TV show zoOmit which integrates television viewing and social media interaction.

President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner’s battle with the press is set to intensify this week asArgentina implements a polemic media law that her administration says encourages a plurality of voices and that opponents call an assault on free speech and democracy.

Yahoo Beefs Up Video and Mobile with Samsung, OnTheAir Deals

On the heels of forming an alliance with Samsung to deliver interactive TV, Yahoo has acquired a video chat startup known as OnTheAir.

You might compare OnTheAir to Google+ Hangouts with a Skype twist. But rather than a handful of friends chatting, the software lets organizers host  their own talk show and broadcast it to the Internet masses.

  • Net2TV Launches Cloud-based Television Service

A new television company, Net2TV Corporation (www.net2television.com), headed by industry veterans from MTV/Nickelodeon, Black Arrow, NBC, TiVo and Netflix, was announced today. The company provides advertising-supported, cloud-based television programming services. Net2TV’s first television service, Portico, features free, ad-supported programming from CBS Interactive’s food site CHOW.com, Popular Science and WSJ Live from The Wall Street Journal. The Portico TV service is available now on 2011 and later Philips connected TVs in the U.S.

  • Hearst Corporation Acquires 50% of NorthSouth Productions

Hearst Corporation and NorthSouth Productions, one of America’s largest independent producers of non-scripted television programming, today announced a joint venture whereby Hearst will acquire 50% of the company. The announcement was made by Frank A. Bennack, Jr., CEO of Hearst Corporation, and Charlie DeBevoise and Mark Hickman, both founders and partners of NorthSouth Productions. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
