Two weeks to go until the Super Bowl and marketers who are paying as much as $4 million for a spot are pushing to maximize their investment in the runup to the Feb. 3 game, one of the big social TV events of the year. Coca Cola is out of the gate fast with a new social media ad campaign for the big game.

Taking a quick look at the Social TV ecosystem, CBS continues to lead the ratings overall and tonight has tennis great Chris Evert appearing on CSI. Will her fans buzz?

  • Modern Family on ABC

Gloria’s (Sofia Vergara) mother (Elizabeth Pena) visits from Colombia in a new episode of “Modern Family” at 9 p.m. on ABC. Meantime, also at 9, Nova looks at military drone technology, on PBS. Former pro stars Chris Evert and Lindsay Davenport guest on a tennis-laced “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” at 10 on CBS. In sports, Duke travels to Miami in college basketball, and the Boston Bruins visit the New York Rangers in hockey.

TV Ratings

  • ‘The Following’ has a decent start for FOX but CBS wins Monday

CBS averaged 10.3 million viewers and a 6.4 rating/10 share in households for the night, beating out FOX’s 9.4 million and 5.6/8. ABC (7.9 million, 5.2/8) came in third. NBC was fourth with 5.25 million viewers and a 3.3/5. The CW (1 million, 0.7/1) trailed.

  • Obama inauguration: TV news ratings plummet compared with 2009

CNN won for the inauguration on Monday, with 3.1 million, trailed by MSNBC (2.3 million) and Fox News (1.3 million). A combined total of 6.7 million viewers watched CNN, Fox News and MSNBC during the half-hour when a reelected Obama took the oath of office and gave his address. That was a 61% drop compared with the same period in 2009.

  • InterMedia Partners Merges Cine Latino, InterMedia Espanol Holdings

(Release) Leo Hindery Jr.’s InterMedia Partners is merging Cine Latino Inc. and InterMedia Espanol Holdings with Azteca Acquisition Corp. The deal is valued at approximately $400 million. The new company will be called Hemisphere Media Group Inc., and will be based in Miami.

Cine Latino is U.S. Spanish-language cable movie network with approximately 12 million subscribers across the U.S., Latin America and Canada. InterMedia Espanol Holdings operates WAPA Television, a full-power, independent station (Ch. 4) with island-wide coverage.
