What we call Social TV is much more than just a hashtag on the lower third of a TV screen, or a Facebook Page. It’s about the change in content that the confluence of technology, second screens, and an engaged audience brings to the television experience. Every day at noon, we publish a report of our picks of the latest news for TV industry professionals.

Today, we look at TV highlights for the weekend, top stories from CES in Las Vegas, awards shows, sports and more. Take a look and send us your comments.

“The fundamental revenue model of television is broken,” said Thomas Engdahl, CEO of MagicRuby, a second-screen app company that’s part of Technicolor. “We’re trying to do more of the same thing over and over.” Banner ads and the like aren’t working, he said, and “it’s not the DVR taking people away, it’s people switching to two programs.”

NBC is on a winning streak, but mostly thanks to the Vikings and Packers.
