Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards Biggest Social TV Event Since Grammy Awards

The Billboard Music Awards on ABC Sunday night absolutely dominated Social TV buzz, getting 4,776,397 mentions on GetGlue, Viggle, Facebook and Twitter, according to Trendrr this morning.

Twitter activity peaked with 367,142 show-related tweets sent in the 15-minute period starting at 10:30, SocialGuide reported today.

The event was the biggest Social TV activity day since the 5 million tweets around Grammy Awards on Feb. 10, and the 10-million tweet Super Bowl (Feb 3).

For the day, SocialGuide measured 6.7M Social TV tweets by 2 million people, the most active day since the Super Bowl.

‘Game of Thrones’ on HBA was the top program on cable Sunday with 166,000 mentions, Trendrr said. ESPN’s Sunday night MLB with the Detroit Tigers at the Texas Rangers drew 89,000 mentions while ‘Mad Men’ on AMC had 77,000 mentions while the NHL matchup with the Ottawa Senators beating the Pittsburgh Penguins, 2-1, in NBC Sports with 70,000 mentions followed by ‘North America’ on Discovery with 53,000 mentions.

On broadcast, the Boston Bruins’ 5-2 smackdown of the New York Rangers in Stanley Cup play on NBC drew 128,000 mentions followed by ‘Tim McGraw’s Superstar Summer Night’ on CBS drew 116,000 mentions.

‘The Simpsons’ season 24 finale on Fox was fourth on broadcast with 89,000 mentions followed by ABC’s broadcast of the San Antonio’s 105-83 NBA playoff win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
