Thursday Night’s Social TV Buzz (May 9)

With the NBA Playoffs in an open night on Thursday, the NHL’s Stanley Cup playoffs filled the gap and dominated the Social TV buzz on cable last night while ‘American Idol’ was the top show on broadcast for the second night, according to Trendrr’s report this morning.

Idol on Fox increased mentions 18 percent over Wednesday with 320,000 mentions by 149,000 people on Twitter, Facebook, GetGlue and Viggle, according to Trendrr.

Red-hot ‘Scandal’ on ABC was the No. 2 show with 293,000 mentions while ‘Glee’ on Fox was third with 210,000 followed by CW’s ‘The Vampire Diaries’ with 210,000 mentions, then ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ with 115,000.

On cable, the Ottwa Senators ripped the Montreal Canadiens 6-1 on CNBC with 163,000 mentions at the top spot while the Pittsburgh Penguins on NBC Sports blanked the New York Islanders, 4-0 and had 111,000 mentions. Also on NBC Sports, the Chicago Blackhawks downed the Minnesota Wild, 5-1 and were the NO. 3 show with 69,000 mentions while ESPN Sportscenter was fourth with 47,000 mentions followed by AMC’s ‘Small Town Security’ with 35,000.

Social TV buzz on Twitter was down for the day, compared to Wednesday. According to SocialGuide, some 906,079 people shared 2,026,636 TV-show-related tweets about 1,026 shows, compared to 3,514,409 mentions by 1,417,229 people about 1,011 shows on Wednesday.
